The Belleville General Hospital Foundation is thrilled to announce a $10,000 gift from local donor Peter Rollins to its cherished Christmas Angel Campaign. With the postal strike threatening to disrupt vital year-end donations, Peter stepped up in a big way to help ensure the hospital foundation can continue meeting its critical replacement equipment needs during this pivotal season.
This year, the postal strike has cast a shadow over the Foundation’s ability to collect up to $500,000 in annual donations that typically arrive by mail in December. While postal workers are set to resume operations tomorrow, the looming December 31 year-end deadline has created an unprecedented shortfall.
“When I learned how the postal delays might jeopardize the Foundation’s ability to raise essential funds, I knew I had to act,” said Peter Rollins. “Belleville General Hospital is at the heart of this community, and ensuring its success is a responsibility we all share. This campaign is not just about raising money; it’s about creating moments of love, hope, and healing during the holidays.”
The Christmas Angel Campaign has become a beloved tradition for the community, with donors giving in honor of cherished loved ones and seeing their angels displayed on stunning holiday installations at the Quinte Mall. These festive displays are more than just decorations—they’re a testament to the deep connection between the hospital and its supporters.
Steven Cook, Executive Director of the BGHF, expressed his gratitude for the outpouring of generosity during these challenging times. “Donors like Peter remind us of the extraordinary power of community,” said Cook. “Despite the challenges we face with the postal delays, the people of Belleville and beyond are rallying behind this campaign. Their support ensures we can continue purchasing the life-saving equipment our hospital depends on.”
This year’s Angel Story features Melissa Sopko, a cancer survivor whose life was saved thanks to donor support. Gifts like Peter Rollins’ $10,000 donation aren’t just funding equipment—they’re giving the gift of life. Melissa’s story is a powerful reminder of how every dollar raised brings hope to those who need it most.
Most importantly, the impact of every donation is doubled, this year, thanks to the Maurice and Marilyn Rollins Foundation, which is matching all contributions to the campaign dollar for dollar.
“This matching opportunity means every gift has twice the power to make a difference,” added Cook. “We’re encouraging everyone to act now—whether online or by phone—to ensure their donation is received before December 31. Together, we can ensure Belleville General Hospital continues to deliver exceptional care for our community.”
