Comfort and Care After Surgery

If you or a loved one has undergone surgery, you know when you wake up there can be many emotions, but one goal: recovery.
The most successful recoveries rely on our health care teams having the right tools.
For the recovery team in the Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU) at Belleville General Hospital, this was an everyday challenge.
Staff frequently had to track down and borrow a shared bladder scanner from elsewhere in the hospital while caring for post-operative patients.
The need became especially real to BGHF Board member, Lorne Brooker, when he underwent surgery himself and overheard staff talking about how urgently they needed their own scanner.
That sparked action.
Thanks to Lorne and the generosity of the CJBQ fundraising cruises hosted by BST Vacations/Blowes & Stewart Travel, PACU now has their very own, brand new bladder scanner!
Today, patients recovering from surgery will receive faster assessments, avoid unnecessary catheter use, and recover with greater comfort, dignity, and peace of mind — all because donors chose to take action.
“Thank you, thank you, thank you! We are so grateful to have this essential equipment available to complete our daily work,” shared the PACU team.
