Seven Years Old. One Incredible Act of Kindness.

Some birthdays are remembered for the gifts received. Sophia’s seventh birthday will be remembered for the difference she made.

Alongside her dad, Jason, and her aunt, Carly, she cut her hair as part of their Birthday Cut for Cancer fundraiser, raising money for the Oncology Department at Belleville General Hospital. Inspired by the cancer journey of a close family member, they wanted to do something meaningful to support other patients and families facing cancer.

When the fundraiser began, Sophia had one simple goal: to raise $100.

What happened next was something no one could have imagined.

Friends, family, neighbours, and members of the community rallied behind Sophia’s mission, raising an incredible $3,300 for local cancer care. Sophia excitedly tracked every donation and personally thanked those who supported the fundraiser, showing that generosity and gratitude have no age.

While the haircut marked the end of the fundraiser, it was only the beginning of the impact their kindness will have.

Every dollar raised will help ensure patients receiving cancer care at Belleville General Hospital have access to the equipment and technology needed to provide exceptional care close to home. It means families can spend less time travelling and more time together, receiving treatment in a familiar place, surrounded by the people who matter most. Gifts like this help bring comfort, hope, and healing to patients during one of the most challenging times in their lives.

Sophia’s fundraiser is also a reminder of the extraordinary generosity of our community. One seven-year-old girl decided she wanted to help, and hundreds of acts of kindness followed.
