The Belleville General Hospital Foundation is delighted to announce a generous donation of $10,010 from Sidney Street Shoppers Drug Mart, raised through their 2024 Tree of Life Campaign. The funds will directly support women’s health initiatives, including vital cancer care services at the Dr. Douglas A. MacIntosh Cancer Clinic.
The annual Tree of Life Campaign, held in September and October, featured a host of events aimed at uniting the community and raising much-needed funds. Highlights included the ever-popular Summer Yard Sale and the spirited annual baseball tournament. This year’s tournament crowned Thomas’s Troopers as Division A champions, with the B&B Slammers and Tail Gators claiming victory in Divisions B and C, respectively.
“The Tree of Life campaign focuses primarily on women’s health,” shared Wynand Bekker, owner of Sidney Street Shoppers Drug Mart. “We believe that women are the heart of the family, and by investing in their health, we’re investing in the health of all Canadians.”
Tree of Life campaigns are hosted by Shoppers Drug Mart locations nationwide, with each store selecting a local organization to support. Sidney Street’s 2024 efforts marked the final campaign under the leadership of long-time organizer Murray Lefebvre. Reflecting on his tenure, Lefebvre said, “Thanks to all the businesses and ball players that have made the past 10 years so successful. We couldn’t have done it without you.”
Executive Director of BGHF, Steven Cook, expressed deep gratitude for the donation, emphasizing the importance of initiatives like Tree of Life. “The demand for oncology services continues to grow as cancer cases rise in Ontario. Campaigns like this help meet that demand, ensuring our community has access to world-class care. We’re incredibly thankful for the dedication of Wynand, Murray, and the entire Shoppers Drug Mart team.”
The Belleville General Hospital Foundation remains committed to enhancing healthcare for the Quinte region. This donation highlights the vital role of community-driven campaigns in tackling pressing healthcare needs.
