The grand prize in the Belleville General Hospital Foundation Car4Cancer Super Draw is going to another local winner. Ticket #6229 held by Wendy Clark of Stirling, Ontario was drawn today in this third BGHF Super Draw in partnership with local car dealer Peter Smith GM. There were a record setting 8661 tickets sold, and more than $173,000 was raised for the Dr Douglas A. Macintosh Cancer Clinic; Quinte Health’s level three regional cancer center based at the Belleville General Hospital site. When reached with the news, Wendy (a long time Camaro fan) was in disbelief but thrilled to learn that she and her husband would soon be “bombing around town in their new car.”
Peter Smith GM Dealer Principal Cole Allinger stated the importance of the partnership: “On behalf of the team here, we are very proud to partner with BGHF. Every single ticket purchased goes toward faster treatment, better machines, better technicians for world class care in our community.” Also, on hand on behalf of the City of Belleville, Councillor Chris Malette spoke to the role of the City with community health care: “At the City of Belleville we know that the our communities are aging at a faster rate than the rest of Ontario and since cancer mostly affects Canadians 50 and older, we must be active and committed partners with Quinte Health and Belleville General Hospital.”
Now in its third year, the Super Draw initiative has raised several hundred thousand dollars with previous Camp4Cancer and Car4Cancer campaigns. Estimates that one in two Canadians will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime highlight why partners are critical to the success of these lottos. There were 10 local businesses supporting ticket sales acting as outlets, in addition to several keen volunteer ticket ambassadors. This support has made all the difference, making this year’s Car4Cancer the most successful to date with 88% of tickets sold! Over this four month campaign four early bird prizes of $1000 each were also drawn. Those winners include: Harry Kranenburg of Quinte West, Glen Aasen of Trenton and Ms. Downey of Belleville, and Margaret Inwood of Corbyville.
The money raised through these vital initiatives supports the Dr. Douglas A. MacIntosh Cancer Clinic, and the need is great. Cancer diagnosis, treatment and care poses an enormous burden on both the patient and the healthcare system. Stated Steve Cook, Executive Director at Belleville General Hospital Foundation, “This need is urging us forward in our next lotto. We are excited to announce our Cash4Cancer Super Draw launching Monday September 11 with an amazing $100,000 cash prize. There are four fabulous early bird prizes, and a 50/50 add-on option this time. To find out more follow us on social media or watch for the launch of cash4cancer.ca.”
Thanks to new BGHF partners, Cogeco YourTV, a re-broadcast of the live draw will be aired on a future episode of Quinte Connection with host Lindsey Harren. BGHF wishes to thank everyone who supported Car4Cancer 2023.
