BGHF was honoured to welcome youth philanthropist Bentley Davidson — known across the region as Pint Sized Gord — and his family to Quinte Health Belleville General Hospital last week as he presented a generous donation of $3,985.49 to support mental health care on Sills 5.
This year’s funds were raised through Quinte Has Talent, a community showcase Bentley and his family organized and hosted. Each year, Bentley comes up with a new fundraising idea, and over the past 11 years, he has raised more than $70,000 to support local healthcare and community causes.
Bentley chose to support the Sills 5 Mental Health Unit after completing a school project on mental health and witnessing a family member navigate their own mental health journey. Understanding how many people are affected, he wanted to help ensure strong supports are available close to home.
Belleville General Hospital is a designated Schedule 1 facility under Ontario’s Mental Health Act, offering a full range of mental health services—from crisis care and inpatient treatment to outpatient and community support. Interprofessional teams provide assessments, therapy, and recovery-oriented care focused on each person’s strengths and goals. Programs include the Crisis Intervention Centre, Transitional Outpatient Centre, Assertive Community Treatment Team, and the Mental Health Inpatient Program on Sills 5.
Krista VanEgmond, Manager of the Mental Health Unit, noted that Quinte Health is also a proud partner of the national 9-8-8 Suicide Crisis Helpline, a free, 24/7 service available by call or text for anyone in crisis or worried about someone else.
“Bentley’s compassion, leadership, and long-standing commitment to giving back are truly inspiring,” said Amanda Grydziuszko of BGHF. “His generosity will make a meaningful difference for individuals and families receiving mental health care at BGH.”
The Belleville General Hospital Foundation extends heartfelt thanks to Bentley and his family. Their dedication to supporting their community continues to have a powerful impact, and this gift will help strengthen mental health services and support recovery for people across the Quinte region.
