The Belleville General Hospital Foundation (BGHF) celebrated a day of excitement and hope as the winners of the 2024 summer edition of the Car4Cancer Super Draw gathered at Peter Smith GM to collect their prizes. Dwight Martin and Linda Enokson were the lucky winners, driving away in a $57,000 Chevrolet Camaro Redline and taking home $17,980 from the 50/50 draw, respectively.

Amid the cheers and celebrations, both winners expressed their disbelief, admitting they “never in their wildest dreams” thought they would win. Yet, the significance of this lottery reaches far beyond the thrill of winning. The Car4Cancer Super Draw is playing a pivotal role in funding critical cancer care services at Quinte Health’s Belleville General Hospital, directly benefiting the Dr. Douglas A. Macintosh Cancer Clinic.

Fueling the Fight Against Cancer
For the winners, this moment was about more than the prizes. It was about giving back to a cause they hold close to their hearts. “Belleville General Hospital is one of the most important organizations, for me, in our community,” said Dwight. “Knowing that our ticket purchase helps provide the best possible care for cancer patients means more than words can express.” Linda echoed his sentiments: “We’re so grateful to be part of something that makes such a difference. It’s about coming together to support our friends, neighbors, and families during their toughest battles.”

BGHF’s Executive Director, Steven Cook, emphasized the importance of the funds raised through these lotteries. “Every ticket sold is a lifeline for someone in our community facing cancer. With 1 in 2 Canadians receiving a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime, the impact of these lotteries is profound. The money raised ensures that our local cancer care services remain top-notch, giving patients the best chance, close to home.”

A Community Effort with a Lasting Impact
This year’s draw was a resounding success, with over 5,500 tickets sold and more than $153,000 raised for cancer care at Belleville General Hospital. Since the Car4Cancer initiative began, the Super Draws have raised a remarkable $1.4 million, helping to fund state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment and providing vital resources to the regional cancer center. The ongoing partnership with Peter Smith GM has been a cornerstone of this effort. “We’re honored to support such a crucial cause,” said Peter Smith GM’s Matt Cassidy. “The excitement of these draws goes hand-in-hand with the important work the hospital is doing, and we’re proud to be part of it.”

Looking Forward
As Dwight and Linda drove off with their prizes, the Belleville General Hospital Foundation looks ahead to the future with a renewed sense of purpose. A new Car4Cancer Super Draw is set to launch this November, giving more supporters the opportunity to make a difference while vying for the next exciting prize. Each ticket sold doesn’t just offer a chance to win—it’s a chance to change lives.
