Raising Funds, One Half-Beard at a Time

Sometimes the strongest motivation comes from a friendly challenge — and in Korben and his grandfather Lee’s case, a very hairy one.
Last year, Korben set a fundraising goal of $350 for cancer care at Belleville General Hospital, with one condition: if he reached it, his grandfather would shave off the mustache he had proudly worn for 50 years. With determination (and a little bit of persuasion), Korben reached his goal — and the mustache came off.
This year, the pair decided to raise the stakes. Lee agreed to grow a full beard, and if Korben could raise $500, he would shave exactly half of it — half beard, half mustache — and wear it proudly around town for an entire week.
Korben achieved his goal again, and Lee kept his end of the bargain. Last week, the pair made their way around town on a victory tour so supporters can see the unforgettable half-and-half look in person.
Behind the laughs and fun photos is something meaningful — a grandson who cares deeply and a grandfather who will go the extra mile (and shave the extra hair) for a good cause.
Thank you, Korben and Lee, for turning creativity and courage into care for patients and families right here in our community.
