Honouring Olivia’s Memory with a Holiday Toy Drive

The holidays can be a bittersweet time, especially for families who are grieving. For the Taylor family, this season carries a profound sense of loss. In January, they said goodbye to their two-year-old daughter, Olivia. Even as they navigate the pain of her absence, the family has found a beautiful way to honour her memory and bring joy to others.
As the holiday season approached, Olivia’s older sister, Amelia, wanted to buy a present for her “sissy.” Her parents Courtney and Victor gently suggested another way to celebrate Olivia’s life—by giving back to children and families who would be in the hospital over the holidays. Inspired by this idea, the family reached out to the Belleville General Hospital Foundation to help organize a toy drive in Olivia’s memory.
On Friday, December 12, the first round of donations arrived. Each toy was generously donated by family, friends, and members of the community who were inspired by the Taylors’ thoughtful gesture. Amelia even helped carry some of the gifts into the hospital, sharing in the joy of giving and honouring her sister’s memory in a meaningful way.
The toys were delivered to the Children’s Treatment Centre, where Olivia had been a patient and is still fondly remembered by staff, as well as to the Maternal Child unit on Quinte 7. These gifts will bring comfort and holiday cheer to young patients and brighten the season for children and families facing challenges during the holidays.
Through this heartfelt initiative, the Taylors are creating a lasting legacy of hope and kindness. Even in the face of heartbreaking loss, their actions remind us that love and generosity can shine through, inspiring others and bringing light to the lives of children and families in need.
