What began as a small, heartfelt tribute to a beloved wife has now become a must-visit annual Halloween tradition for the Quinte region. The Deadnersville Halloween Haunt, created by Lorne Holditch in memory of his wife Sheila, continues to inspire and delight thousands of visitors while raising vital funds for the Belleville General Hospital Foundation (BGHF).
This year’s Deadnersville welcomed a record-breaking 19,000+ visitors, raising an astounding $21,544 in donations to support priority medical equipment at Belleville General Hospital. From its humble beginnings with just 250 visitors, Deadnersville has grown into a Halloween spectacle like no other, captivating the community with its immersive decorations, animatronics, and spooky fun for all ages.
“Never in my wildest dreams did I think Deadnersville would grow to this level,” said Lorne Holditch. “What started as a small way to honor Sheila has become something so much bigger—a way to give back to the hospital that cared for her with such compassion. I’ll be forever thankful to Belleville General Hospital for their incredible care, and as long as I’m able, I’ll continue doing this.”
Sheila passed away in 2019, but her memory lives on through Deadnersville, which Lorne has lovingly turned into a legacy of giving. Over the years, his dedication has inspired the community to rally behind the cause, turning Deadnersville into a shining example of what can be achieved through creativity, hard work, and compassion.
Steve Cook, Executive Director of the Belleville General Hospital Foundation, praised Lorne’s dedication: “Lorne’s incredible efforts with Deadnersville have created a legacy that touches thousands of lives every year. His passion and commitment to honoring Sheila while supporting our hospital inspires us all. The $21,544 raised this year brings Lorne’s cumulative giving to over $72,000— a truly remarkable contribution to healthcare in our region.”
Deadnersville’s remarkable success underscores its place as a beloved feature of the Halloween calendar, attracting visitors from across the region and beyond. As the event continues to grow, so does its impact, providing essential support for the hospital that serves the Quinte community.
