The Belleville General Hospital Foundation has received a $200,000 gift from the Maurice and Marilyn Rollins Foundation for new nuclear medicine cameras.
The Rollins Foundation pledged the money at the BGHF Annual Gala in December and Friday, the donation was formally presented bringing the goal in sight.
The cost of the Regional Nuclear Medicine Project is estimated at between $2.7 and $2.9 million.
Approximately $2.5 million has been raised over the last two years.
The campaign was given its first major boost in 2019 when the late Maurice Rollins kicked off the project with a $150,000 leadership gift.
Maurice’s daughter Christine Mills says her father was passionate about supporting the hospital and this project was close to his heart.
BGHF Executive Director Steve Cook says, “Time is running out to replace this equipment before a major impact on service delivery here at the hospital… we are so close to taking this project to completion, which has benefits for the entire region.”
A Nuclear Medicine scan examines an organ’s function more that its anatomy or structure, allowing doctors a much more extensive opportunity to diagnose disease.
The current machines are almost 20 years old.
