Time to keep care close to home!
“The day after my mammogram, the hospital called to say they saw something concerning. I was booked for an ultrasound the very next day. On my birthday that year, I received the news no one ever wants to hear: I had breast cancer.”
This was Chery’s experience in 2017. She was shocked. She didn’t have any symptoms, and felt fine. If it hadn’t been for routine screening, her cancer may not have been found as early as it was.
One in two Canadians will face cancer in their lifetime — and for too many women, that diagnosis is breast cancer. It remains one of the leading causes of cancer-related death among women in Ontario. But when detected early, breast cancer is almost 100% treatable at Stage 1.
That’s why early detection isn’t just important — it’s life-saving!
Here in the Quinte region, demand for breast screening continues to grow as our population ages. Historically, women aged 50 to 74 are advised to undergo mammograms every two years. Now, all women aged 40 to 49 are being included in these publicly funded mammograms. Consequently, our current 2D equipment can’t keep pace with this rising demand or the precision required for modern diagnostics.
That’s why we’re asking our community to rally together by funding the Senographe Pristina™, GE HealthCare’s most advanced 3D mammography system.
Every day patients like Cheryl are treated at Belleville General Hospital and we couldn’t do it without the support of donors like you. Please donate today!
