Today we are remembering a truly amazing person. Dr. Douglas A. MacIntosh was a pioneer in cancer care in our community. He founded the oncology clinic at BGH in 1972 which allowed patients in the Quinte Region to receive oncology care closer to home. He cared for countless patients and family members during his 45 years at BGH.
Dr. Colin McPherson, Chief of Staff for Quinte Health Care says “I am saddened that we have lost such a pillar of the medical profession and of our community. His legacy will live on through the exceptional care extended by the team at the Dr. Douglas A. MacIntosh Cancer Clinic. “
The staff at the Belleville General Hospital Foundation also mourn the loss of such a caring individual. He was an incredible supporter of BGHF including our “Swing Fore Cancer” Dr. Mac Golf Open. He always attended the event and cheered on the golfers and spoke about how important their donations were to the oncology department. He often attended the BGHF Gala’s with his wife Catherine and would say grace for our attendees.
He will be missed by his wife Catherine, their family and everyone in our community who had the pleasure of meeting him.
