At a recent game, the families and team members for the U18 Quinte Red Devils AAA Hockey Team set out to raise funds for local Cancer Care. They wore pink hockey jerseys, and sold tickets for a 50/50 raffle as well as delicious baked goods to raise money for this worthy cause. The event was a tremendous success thanks to the efforts of the parents and volunteers, and to the visitors to the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre who supported the fundraiser through their purchases.
As a result of the Quinte Red Devils’ hard work, Team Captain, Justin Murdoch was able to present a donation of $1431.71 to Jennifer McTavish, Events Officer with the Belleville General Hospital Foundation. Organizer Audrey McInnes stated, “There isn’t a family who hasn’t been touched in some way by cancer. It meant a lot for the money we raised to remain local. And for the amount of work, we were really pleased with the result in such a short period of time.”
The donation will be directed to the Dr Douglas A MacIntosh Cancer Clinic, to support Cancer Care patients from our region. The U18 Red Devils challenge other sports teams to help bring awareness and raise much-needed funds for Belleville General Hospital, which provides regional cancer care to the Quinte Health catchment area.
