What is Boccia?

Boccia is an indoor sport that can be played by anyone, with or without a disability. It’s a co-ed game of control and accuracy, similar to curling or lawn bowling. Players aim to propel balls toward a target ball, called the “jack.”

If a player cannot throw the ball, they can roll, kick, or use a ramp. Those who cannot release the ball by hand can also use a hand pointer to push it.

Games consist of four to six ends, with each side having six balls (red or blue) per end. Points are tallied at the end of each round, and the side with balls closest to the jack scores. If there’s a tie after all ends, a tie-break end decides the winner.

Boccia was introduced to the Paralympic Games in 1984 and is now played in over 50 countries worldwide.
