2025/2026 Priority Equipment Needs
At Belleville General Hospital, every department relies on specialized tools to provide safe, timely, and compassionate care. Government funding does not cover the cost of this equipment, which means we depend on the generosity of our community to meet these urgent needs. For 2025/2026, we’ve highlighted priority items from across our hospital—from surgery to oncology to diagnostics—each one playing a vital role in patient care. By supporting these equipment needs, you help ensure that patients and families have access to the very best care, close to home.
Digital Mammography Equipment
Department: Oncology and Diagnostic Imaging
Total Investment $800,395
Belleville General Hospital urgently needs to replace its aging mammography machine with a state-of-the-art unit featuring tomosynthesis technology. This 3D system provides hundreds of images from multiple angles, helping radiologists detect cancers earlier and with greater accuracy, especially in women with dense breast tissue. Earlier detection leads to less invasive treatment, better outcomes, and more lives saved.
With Ontario now offering routine breast screening starting at age 40, demand has surged while our current machine nears the end of its serviceable life. Without a replacement, patients could face diagnostic delays that jeopardize timely treatment. Your support will help raise $800,395 to bring this life-saving technology to BGH, ensuring timely, high-quality cancer care close to home.
Operating Room Integrated System Upgrade
Department: Surgery
Total Investment $ 800,000 – 4 ORs x $200K each
Belleville General Hospital performs thousands of minimally invasive surgeries each year, including emergency procedures, cancer biopsies, joint repairs, and gynecologic operations. These procedures rely on advanced imaging technology, but the integrated systems that connect our scopes, monitors, and surgical tools were installed in 2014 and are now outdated, limiting image quality, flexibility, and reliability.
We are raising funds to upgrade the “brains” of four operating rooms with state-of-the-art systems. These upgrades will provide ultra-high-definition imaging, improve teamwork and efficiency, and make minimally invasive surgeries safer and more effective. This investment will ensure that patients across our region continue to receive exceptional surgical care close to home.
Bladder Scanner
Department – Surgery
Total Investment: $16,297
After surgery or treatment involving anesthesia or a catheter, one of the final steps before a patient can safely go home is a bladder scan. This small, non-invasive ultrasound helps our care team ensure the bladder is emptying properly, preventing discomfort, infection, and complications. Currently, our surgical team must borrow a shared scanner that is in constant demand across multiple departments, which can lead to delays and patient discomfort.
With your support, we can purchase a dedicated bladder scanner for our surgical unit. This equipment will allow care teams to act quickly, reduce pain, lower infection risk, and improve patient flow. It will enhance recovery for patients following prostate, orthopedic, gynecological, and urological surgeries, helping thousands regain comfort, safety, and dignity each year.
Umano Mental Health Beds
Department: Mental Health
Total Investment $54,710 – 10 Needed x $5,471 each
At Belleville General Hospital, patient safety and dignity are top priorities, especially in mental health care. We are raising funds to purchase specialized mental health beds designed to meet the unique needs of psychiatric patients. With built-in safety features like anti-ligature components, tamper-proof fasteners, and reinforced frames, these beds help prevent self-harm while providing a secure, calming environment.
These beds do more than provide safety—they create a space where healing can begin. By supporting comfort, stability, and recovery, they help patients participate in their treatment with dignity. Your gift will equip our mental health department with the tools needed to provide exceptional, compassionate care to some of our most vulnerable patients.
ECG Machines
Department: Inpatient Medicine, Surgery, Emergency, Cardiac Care
Total Investment $164,080 – 7 Needed x $23,440 each
Electrocardiogram (ECG) machines are essential tools used daily across Belleville General Hospital to detect and monitor heart conditions in surgery, medicine, emergency, and cardiac units. They provide real-time information about heart rhythms, enabling our teams to respond quickly to heart attacks, arrhythmias, and other life-threatening conditions. Many of our current machines are nearing the end of their usable life, making replacements urgently needed.
We are seeking support to replace seven ECG machines throughout the hospital. Updated equipment will improve reliability, reduce downtime, and help our teams deliver the highest standard of cardiac care when every second counts. Your gift will ensure patients of all ages—from those in emergency distress to those recovering from surgery—have access to this vital, life-saving technology.
Vital Signs Machines
Department: Inpatient Medicine
Total Investment: $103,167 – 27 Needed x $3,821 each
Vital signs machines are among the most frequently used tools in patient care, monitoring heart rate, blood pressure, temperature, and oxygen levels. On our medicine unit, they are essential for every stage of care, from admission assessments to ongoing monitoring and early detection of complications. With growing patient volumes and aging equipment, replacement is urgently needed.
We are raising funds to purchase 27 new vital signs machines for the inpatient medicine unit at Belleville General Hospital. These updated machines are faster, more accurate, and easier for staff to use, allowing nurses and physicians to spend more time with patients and less time troubleshooting equipment. Your support will help ensure patients receive timely, informed care and that our teams have the tools they need to make critical decisions every day.
Wireless Fetal Monitors
Department: Maternal Child
Total Investment: $264,632 – 10 Needed x $26,463 each
Every mother deserves to feel safe, supported, and in control during childbirth. By helping us replace outdated fetal monitors, you ensure that mothers at Belleville General Hospital can move freely, stay comfortable, and be continuously monitored throughout labour. Modern monitors support better outcomes, fewer complications, and a more empowering birth experience for both mother and baby.
Your gift has a direct and lasting impact. Updated equipment gives our care teams the tools they need to respond quickly, make confident clinical decisions, and provide the highest standard of care. It’s an investment in the well-being of families across our region and in every new life that begins at our hospital.
