Lanny and Catharine Huff have operated many businesses in the Quinte Region. They also know the importance of supporting Health care in the same community where they live and work. Over the last year, the Huffs have pledged $250,000 to projects at Belleville General Hospital. Their further gift this week of $250,000 brings the family’s recent giving to half a million dollars. The $250,000 donation will go towards the purchase of two new Spect CT cameras in the Nuclear Medicine Department at Belleville General Hospital. The project is one of QHC’s regional priority projects at present with a total cost of $2.9m
When asked about his recent gift, Mr. Huff said “Our hospital is such a key part of our community. Without our hospital we have no health care system. It is also important to provide this type of care close to home.” Mrs. Huff says she had a recent visit to BGH where she was treated so well and the level of care was excellent. They both feel it’s important to give back and are aware of the importance such equipment has for the wider area.
BGHF Executive Director Steve Cook says “Lanny and Catharine Huff recognize the importance of having leading edge diagnostics at our doorstep. Their gift helps to ensure cancer staging assessments happen right here in Belleville. Our current cameras are nearing the end of their lifespan and the new machines will provide greater visual clarity for tumor detection.”
