The First in Canada
Thanks to BGH Foundation donors, QHC Belleville is the first hospital in Canada to get the latest generation of nuclear cardiology cameras, giving residents in the Quinte region access to the latest equipment for diagnoses of coronary disease and identifying patients at risk of heart attacks. “The new camera is a great improvement for patients,” Dr. Rene Barette, head of the division of Nuclear Medicine in the Department of Diagnostic Imaging says. “It is eight times faster than the one it replaced, uses lower doses of radiation and produces sharper images.”
No longer having to lie flat will make the test easier for those with breathing issues and the smaller device has open sight-lines that make it more comfortable for patients with claustrophobia.
