Thanks to generous donations a new fluoroscope was purchased, which means cancer patients are now able to have chemo ports inserted right here at BGH. Chemo ports are small, but provide a huge benefit to the patient. Treatment and blood monitoring is provided by a single access point, making it more comfortable and much easier for the patient. A person receiving treatments no longer has to endure painful needles during treatment. Without the fluoroscope, traveling to Kingston used to be the only option for this procedure. And this option came with a lengthy wait list and increased stress on patients.
Now, because of continued donor generosity, cancer patients are receiving chemo ports at BGH and better care is being provided.
