Colon cancer is the second leading cause of male and female cancer related deaths in Canada. It’s also one of the most preventable forms of cancer. If screened and caught early chances of survival increase by 90 per cent.

A colonoscope is a thin, flexible, hollow, lighted tube that is inserted through the rectum into the colon to enable the doctor to view the entire lining of the colon. About 3,800 people have colonoscopies at QHC Belleville every year. Colonoscopes have a life expectancy of 5 years.

Colonoscopes cost $42,000 each
