A Final Expression Of Care

While it’s true that it is hard to measure the impact any of us has on the world, it is especially so of Eileen Lewis. In many ways her story isn’t too different than most. She was born and raised in Belleville; she worked here, lived a full life and, about a year ago now she died in the same hospital where she was born – the circle of life completed.
It’s when you take a closer look that you realize Mrs. Lewis’ life was defined in a meaningful way by her desire to contribute to her community and to help others, and that she did change the world and set an example that others can follow. The principles Mrs. Lewis lived by guided her to find ways both big and small to make life better for others. She did this quietly and without fanfare; she did it because she thought it was the right thing to do and because it made her feel good.
Mrs. Lewis believed so strongly in helping others that she planned a final gift to the Belleville General Hospital Foundation in her will. It was important to her that although her time among us was complete, that she could one last time express her love for others and her desire to make a positive impact on the world.
